The story so far

Earlier this year a team of us set out for a country in South East Asia, with plans to stay in-country for a few weeks, in order to learn the local language and to continue finding opportunities to share the gospel and God’s kingdom with those there.

Different people from our houses and congregations have been visiting various regions of this country for years – prayer walking, sharing the love of God, serving the poor, and building little families and communities of believers.

The people on this team have been going on different journeys all around Asia, learning how to be “strangers and pilgrims on the earth”, how to live in new and strange places, how to rely on our Father for provision, and how to follow Jesus out of our own comfort zones.

We hope, after such a quietly burgeoning time of preparation, that we will finally be ready, later this year, to move into the country and establish ourselves there.

The next step

The team are back for a short break, of more preparation, and then going again for more lessons! Here is what it was like:

"After a month of language lessons in-country the team that went are now able to use the basics of the language in simple everyday settings eg taking transport, going to market and making small talk. We had some excellent teachers who ended up being quite fond of us, and we really felt that God had especially prepared them for us. On outreach, we had found that faith really does come by hearing - a man that had started listening to the spoken Word had come to Jesus by himself!. We then baptized him and helped him to receive the power of the Holy Spirit, leaving behind two more bible machines to see what else would happen next. Thank you for praying with us for our provision, we received more than we needed and shared with others."

As we prepare to return soon to consolidate our language base, please continue to pray:

• God shows us clearly where to live in the long term
• We are able to build on friendships with some university students - we feel this will somehow be important for the future
• For his protection over our team as foreigners in a closed country.
